Youth Circle Training: January 3-5, 2012

Circle Keepers:  Father Dave Kelly
                           Sister Donna Liette

Youth Leaders:   Jonathan Little
                            Bonnie Kane

Participants:
    Youth from Tilden High School
    Youth from Richards High School
    Youth from Hedges Community
Youth from Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation

The training was rated as a 10 on the 1-10 scale and we look to this diverse group of youth to begin to build a restorative community in their schools and neighborhoods.

Some will begin peace circles in their schools and/or churches, some will offer the circle process as an option for creating peace within families; others will be called upon to use the circle process to bring about reconciliation between victims and offenders within the community.     The group plans on staying connected by coming together periodically, through their own facebook page, and offering support to one another as they take risks to break down the violence in their communities.

mothers for peace
The Mothers for Peace celebrated the completion of an incredilby beautiful and moving mural in the Back-of-the-Yards community. Along with youth, community members, and local artists, the Mothers for Peace group led the effort to create a social space dedicated to peacebuilding and keeping dreams alive. Young people, many of whom had their struggles, assisted in the creation of the mural. It continues the ongoing use of art and collaboration in an effort toward "putting neighbor back into the hood".

Summer Activities: A group of youth are working to repair and give back to the community through a community mural. They will work throughout the summer to clean and prepare, paint and construct a mural that symbolizes the strength and determination to build up rather than tear down the community. We are striving to put the "neighbor back in the hood".
